Alcalá del Júcar is one of the most spectacular and picturesque towns in the province of Albacete and all of Spain. It is located at the top of a meander formed by the Júcar river, from which it partly takes its name. This Albacete town has it all to be on the list of the “Most Beautiful Towns in Spain”, including a magnificent historical buildings portfolio and a beautiful natural environment.
Located on the slope of a hill crowned by a castle, its magnificent natural environment and popular architecture of excavated houses in the mountains draw attention to it, due to its steep and peculiar alleys, which ascend to the highest point, where the ruins of an Arab castle lie.
Declared a Historic-Artistic Site, the homes of Alcalá del Júcar are located on a large rock or excavated into it, giving rise to the popular cave houses, some of them transformed into tourist establishments. Among the countless caves that can be visited, piercing its terrain, are the most notable Garadén, Masagó and Diablo caves.
It is a must to begin the visit with the so-called “Roman bridge”, a restored medieval construction, which leads to the Church of San Andrés and the bullring, unique in its style due to its irregular shape. Above all, the reconstructed castle of Arab origin stands out, located at the highest point of the area.
