Located in Villarrobledo, the heart of La Mancha, it is one of the largest wine-growing areas in Spain and one of the most important wine tourism spots in Castilla-La Mancha, a place of wines and history. Through its streets, all the values of an authentic La Mancha city can be seen.
The “Bodega de Don Quijote” Museum is a renewed traditional winery, it preserves the common elements of the old wineries, such as the unloading area, the wells that housed the grape pomace and the typical potbellies of Villarrobledo and shows the wine production process, from the moment the grapes enter the winery, up to its final fermentation in the clay jars.
It has a traditional La Mancha patio that completes the traditional aspect that the inns offered in the 16th and 17th centuries. In this area, the typical inns were of great importance since Ventas de Alcolea is a crossroads where the Cañada Real de La Mancha to Murcia, the Camino de Santiago, the Teresiana Trail and the Don Quixote Trail converge.
Regarding the Don Quixote Trail, this place is linked to the episode of the lions.
The Bodega de Don Quijote Interpretation Centre together with the Tinajería Interpretation Centre offer a complete insight into the importance of wine making for the city of Villarrobledo and its most typical craft, tinajera pottery, with the same 400 year old artisanal techniques still used today.
