The Tranco del Lobo (Wolf Pass) passes through the Júcar River, a spectacular place located in Casas de Ves. A place of legend. It is said that on a very rainy day, the riverbed rose a lot in a very short time. The flood caught a young woman by surprise, who was distracted picking flowers, and took her with it. Her father followed her down the path until he lost sight of her. Tired and disoriented, he continued walking down the river for hours. As night fell, he arrived at the great boot of the Wolf Pass. It was so big that it could not be carried away by the current. There, on top of the boot, his daughter was waiting for him, accompanied by a wolf who had saved her and taken her to safety. It is said that, when there were still wolves, they took advantage of the narrowness of the river in this area to jump from one side to the other.
Near Tranco del Lobo is the second-oldest power plant in Spain and the first hydroelectric power plant: La Central del Molinar. Today, as a reminder of the history, near the ruins of the hydroelectric plant you can find the old town that was built for the workers: The Tranco del Lobo village, characterised by the peculiar urban art on the old facades of abandoned houses.
It is a very quiet route, where you don’t often bump into other hikers. It belongs to the town of Casas de Ves, and is located between Villa de Ves and Alcalá del Júcar. In the area there are many hiking routes to explore and spectacular places to enjoy.
