Considered one of the most beautiful natural sights in Spain, the river’s source is located in the Calares del Río Mundo and Sima Natural Park and will sweep you away with its impressive hydrogeological formations, which characterise the karst landscape: coves, chasms, dolinas, and numerous caves, with the Chorros Cave being the most important. It has more than 50 km of explored galleries through which the Mundo River originates, forming a spectacular fall of more than 80 metres and small pools of water called calderas.
This natural park has an area of 19,192 hectares, making it an important haven for biodiversity, geodiversity, culture and history.
Los Chorros del Río Mundo is the most visited part of the Natural Park.
It lies in a peaceful spot between moors and trees, where there is a huge waterfall, giving way to the Mundo River source.
At certain times, due to thaw, rain and wind, the burst phenomenon occurs, a karst phenomenon that happens randomly and multiplies the flow of water that comes out of the Chorros cave, creating a visual spectacle and converting the waterfall into a wonder of nature that will undoubtedly leave you gobsmacked. It usually occurs between October and May if there has been rain in autumn and snow in winter.
This phenomenon is unique in Spain, given that the cave from which the water comes out of is of karst origin.
In this way, kilometres and kilometres of water begin that cross a large part of Albacete, a monumental province.
